We take a look at Phil Tufnell's excellent poker DVD
Nicely presented and easy to follow, Win At Poker with Phil Tufnell goes through all the major elements of playing Texas Hold’Em, providing viewers with top tips along the way.
Tuffers is joined by Hendon Mobster Barney Boatman, whose explanations of the game are clear and easy to understand. As well as taking Phil (and the viewer) through the main stages of Hold’Em, Barny also describes the action in the key hands at the Party Poker Den, where six high-stakes poker players including Barry Hearn and ‘Mad’ Marty Wilson battle it out in a specially-hosted single-table tournament. After you’ve watched the tutorial part of the DVD, you can then watch the entire tournament as a DVD extra.
On top of all that, there are valuable tips and pointers from some of the world’s top players, including 2004 WSOP Champ Greg ‘Fossilman’ Raymer, John Maxfield, Tony ‘The Lizard’ Bloom and Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott.
The DVD is slickly produced, and moves fast enough to maintain interest, without being too fast for beginners. It’s an excellent introduction to the game for those just discovering poker, as well as an interesting insight into the minds of some of the world’s top players.
VERDICT
With easy-to-understand explanations of all the major stages of Texas Hold’Em, plus regular ‘Top Tips’ roundups throughout the DVD , we reckon Win At Poker with Phil Tufnell is an excellent buy for anyone learning the poker ropes, while remaining interesting enough for those more experienced players out there. We’d have loved to see Tuffers in the tournament to test out what he had learned, though. An idea for Win At Poker, Vol 2, perhaps?
