Fletch reviews our betting weekend in the cricket, rugby and NFL
We had three different sports on the go this week and after last week’s 100% stormer I was half-expecting a bit of a backlash by the gambling gods. As it transpired though we had a reasonable weekend, mostly courtesy of a hugely profitable Test match in India.
Cricket, 1st Test
Back India at 13/8 was the call and courtesy of a brilliant final day they won. Bank the profit.
Lay the draw at evens before the first day was our second position and that was another evens winner. And after the second day I updated with another lay of the draw – again around evens. Bank that!
So we can see the Test was an absolute superstar winner for us. Also our series bet on India is looking handsome now as there is only one more Test to go.
Heineken Cup rugby
The rugby was mixed this week. It started poorly when Leinster were turned over by Castres in France on Friday evening.
Munster then secured a win at 4/13 over Clermost Auvergne.
The Harlequins vs Stade Francais nailbiter did everything we asked of it as Quins won by two in five minutes of added-on time. The price swings around evens were phenomenal and we did well.
Then Perpignan and Dan Carter traded neatly against Leicester.
NFL
Another good to reasonable weekend.
Atlanta Falcons won at home – goodness, they almost always do and it was close. At 7/11 the straight punters banked a nice win but the traders should really have enjoyed the match as there were few points but massive price swings almost every possession. It became rhythmic and the game barely moved to shock us so we should bave done well and in the end our team won.
Pittsburgh won in the last minute against Baltimore for another superb trader. We said it would be with the two best defences in the league and it transpired as the match was always a 3 pointer. Fantastic for us.
Finally we backed the New York Giants small against the Dallas Cowboys and without their two main offensive linemen they could not protect Eli Manning and so we lost our bet. An annoying end to the weekend but I was asleep by then and content that even if the Giants lost there was enough profit banked with the prospect of more from the cricket.
When India won that it turned our weekend from so-so to superb.
