A mixed weekend, winning on the cricket at Lords, but suffering with SA’s shock Tri-Nations win
A curate’s egg of a weekend really.
The England v South Africa cricket (which continues on Monday) has been good with a easy and secure 80 ticks of profit booked in last Friday as the draw shortened from 2.3 to circa 1.5.
We were on that handsomely and locked in profit.
The New Zealand v South Africa rugby was a huge disappointment though as they crumbled to South Africa and cost us. So this weekend we have little to show for our efforts.
Fortunately, we have not lost much because the good and bad are similar but it irks all the same.
However, years ago when I was writing a book on gambling a wily old punter told me the best advice I ever received.
To be good at this game you have to forget the winners and concentrate on the losses. If you can keep your bad days or weeks to small dents or breakevens then the good days have much greater effect.
I have tried to do that in this column and it has worked pretty well with some tame weeks of neither here nor there and then some monster win weeks.
But it is good advice to keep remembering.
