A mixed weekend for Fletch in the NFL and rugby markets
A weekend with plenty of action but it must be said not really that much achievement as the account went nowhere. We did win a little (or definitely should not have lost) but we certainly won’t be booking a holiday.
I have written before that in the bad weeks we have to try and be as stagnant as possible to protect the account so that when we have a good weekend it is made more important.
Heineken Cup rugby
The first game was a short priced back of the Ospreys at 4/11 and they won eventually, without ever really looking convincing. Not that we care – it was money in the bank.
In the second game, I opposed Leinster at 1/2 to start and for about 25 minutes, despite them taking the lead, it seemed as if there was a game. The second half however was all the Irish as Wasps were blown out the water.
Bath vs Dragons was the next game and I ended up backing Bath straight up at 1.4. I ignored the handicap because the straight price was big enough above the 1.3 level I suggested would be too short. It was a poor game but Bath won.
Sale vs Munster was a classic trader and worked out OK despite Munster closing out the game. It was neither a big loss nor big win game for us.
The final match between Cardiff and Gloucester was also a trader as they delivered a match where the lead changed hands plenty of times. The first 60 minutes was a trading dream as we booked a substantial win.
Overall the rugby was a working profit even if we had to work hard for it.
NFL
Although the Chargers were not good enough for the straight win vs the Bills, they did compete in the first two quarters. When they took the lead at 7-3 we made some good trades and got some profit there. However, I lost out on the total points back.
The Saints never really got going against the Panthers but again for the above evens side that we backed to trade they did well enough early to give us a 7-3 lead and big swing in price. At least that gave us a profit to start which we either kept or lost later in the match but it should have meant no loss as we were trading with profit.
The two 9pm games were a straight win of total points for Indianapolis @ Green Bay at 10/11 but a loss for the Jets who we backed.
