Wednesday racing

A straight victory and an each-way finish marked a profitable Wednesday at the races

Little White Lie rode home like the favourite she was in the 3.40 to give us some solid profits at 8/11

1.55 – Plenty of attention should be given to the fact that the ground is classed as heavy today, opening us up to the possibility of false results, therefore one should not get too heavily involved.

That said, this race seems to lack strength in depth and two horses stand out from the field. Positivity has lost her way somewhat of late and may be seen to her best back on a sound surface. Last time out she chased the leaders until leading around the halfway point. She was then pushed along and headed over 1f out and weakened inside the final furlong to finish a slightly disappointing 6th. She may be better for having that run in her legs and you would expect a much improved performance today.

My tip goes to Silent Wonder who has a string of 2nds to his name and has proven he can handle the heavy ground. In his last start he was always close up, led from 2f out and was joined by other runners and ridden along from the furlong marker. He was then driven along and headed inside the final furlong and plugged away at one pace. If reproducing that sort of form it should probably be good enough to beat a field like todays.

3.40 – This looks like it could be a cracking little conditions stakes with a number of quite smart performers. However I think that this, like the previous race, could come down to two from the field.

General Eliott is proven on soft ground and has held his own at Group 3 level. Last time out he was prominent throughout, made his effort 2f from home, but did not get a clear run. Once out of traffic he had every chance in the final furlong and ran on nicely to just get touched off by a ½ length.

I like the look of Little White Lie who is proven at this level and has winning form on the heavy ground. In his last start, in the Cambridgeshire, he chased the leaders on the stand side; held the overall lead 3f out and was headed at the 2f marker. He then plugged on at one pace approaching the final furlong to finish a creditable 4th. If he can repeat that level of performance today he should be hard to stop.
