Tuesday Racing

Stuart Eaton looks at the cards at Brighton and Nottingham for Tuesday 14 August 2007

Brighton

2.30 – A hugely uncompetitive maiden race kicks us off at Brighton today and it would be a massive surprise if this is not taken by the Ed Dunlop trained Commandment. He was just beaten by a length last time out when pulling twelve lengths clear on his next nearest rival that day, and anything approaching that sort of form today should comfortably see him in the winner’s enclosure. Of the others only Saaratt seems to have anything approaching the level of quality that may trouble the favourite today, one for the forecast.

4.00 – Our next race is a slightly more competitive claimer over 1m3f. Susie May should be much more at home at this level after a much improved run last time out following a disappointing performance. A concern will be the likely faster pace on offer and her ability to handle that after racing at 2m last time out. If she can overcome that handicap she is likely to have a hand in this today.

My tip is for Prince Des Neiges who has mostly been a paragon of consistency in both France and for the Hales yard. He has been slightly disappointing in his last two starts but figures suggest he perhaps has a little more than the rest of the field and is certainly the most solid of this bunch. Of the others, Coffin Dodger makes the most appeal.

Nottingham

5.45 – This looks like a race in which it should pay to concentrate our efforts on three from the field. Spinning is normally a consistent runner in handicap company without ever setting the world alight as in truth he lacks the change of gear required to win races. He could however run into a place.

Baan has struggled for form for quite a while now, however there were signs last time out that he may be running into form and could be ready to challenge again. He is likely to find at least one too good today. My tip goes to Top Mark who is bang in form at the moment and has looked as if it would only be a matter of time before he gets his nose in front – particularly with his good run at this course and distance last time out.
