Tuesday racing

It was a decent day at the races on Tuesday

While Zegna could only manage a third place finish, Stuart got it spot on in tipping Dester Creek to win the 1.40 at Yarmouth

Catterick

1.30 – This looks to be a good opportunity for Zegna to convert his recent 2nd into a win. In that race he led, was then ridden clear and was going well over 1f out. He was driven inside the final furlong but was just headed and had no extra for the final 30 yards. It was a big improvement on his debut 5th and he was probably the one to take from the race. If he can show further improvement today he should be very hard to stop. Of the rest Grissom and Real Diamond look the biggest dangers.

Yarmouth

1.40 – With a number of powerful stables entering debut horses, this has the makings of quite an interesting encounter. As is always the case with any race with a number of first timers, a check on the betting market is essential and any market moves for Yirga or Cosimo should be noted. That said I think that previous racecourse experience is important and for that reason I think that this could come down to two from the field.

Confucius Captain has been racing at a level above this and is suited by a little cut in the ground. Last time out he was slowly into his stride and was soon chasing the leaders. He was then ridden over 2f out and stayed on at the same pace to finish over six lengths behind the winner. He was probably outclassed on the day, as it was a class 3 encounter, but he would have learnt from the experience and he will be more at home at this level.

My tip goes to Desert Creek who was impressive and made it into a few note books on debut. He was soon driven along in the rear rank, making rapid headway over 1f out and was finishing strongly. He then chased the winner inside the final furlong but was just held off by over a length. He looks like he may need a stiffer test, which he gets today and he shouldn’t be a maiden for long if he can show normal improvement on his debut run.
