Angel Cabrera wins the Masters at Augusta in a classic
With Mickelson’s late charge on the final day it looked like we might be pocketing some serious cash until a disastrous shot into the water left him a few shots off the pace.
However, all we really cared about was Fletch’s bold tip to lay the beast that is Tiger Woods. Despite a few glorious moments, Woods was never really in the mix and we had some profits to celebrate this Easter.
Have you read the golfing press recently?
HE’S BACK!
Tiger Woods’s return seems to be the headline of the moment and after his win in only his third tournament since a long lay-off it is no surprise that the fickle press have gone mad for his return.
Tiger’s competitors, pundits and punters are already inking him in for the Green Jacket come Sunday evening. He might well win and it would be a fairytale return like he has seemed to specialise in over the years BUT Woods has only won one Masters in the last 6 years.
In the meantime Trevor Immelman, Zach Johnson and Phil ‘Lefty’ Mickelson have all won there. Are you getting the drift?
While he is the big gun in the locker room, that’s not the case at Augusta and the reason is since they lengthened the course to stop the big hitters dominating he has been punished for his frequent wayward drives. Some courses he can be awful off the tee but long enough to avoid the dropped shot trouble. Not at Augusta though and if he drives errantly again he will be punished.
Despite all this, he is as low as 3.6 to lay on Betfair. That is 2.6/1. Do the figures add up for such a low price? No, they do not. If he gets in front and leads on the final Sunday there is a damned good chance he will win but that price is just ridiculous. Bite the bullet troops and lay Woods.
There is no price backing him at this level and if he has a 100% game he may still not shorten throughout. But who should we be backing to beat him?
Mickelson is an obvious one and is worth backing. He is on form, loves the course and deserves some love for Woods and his caddie’s crass comments during the winter. 10/1 on Betfair is high for a man who usually ends up right in the mix.

Lay Woods & back Mickelson
