Great tips on the horse racing were cruelly brought down by the footie in September

What could be better than riding home the winner at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe? Picking out the entire first three, of course! Which is exactly what Andrew Michael did when he previewed the big race in IE19.
Following up his superb tipping performance at Cheltenham last March, Andrew again underlined his astute racing eye with another terrific display. He selected victor Hurricane Run, second-placed Westerner (‘a classy horse who could produce a shock’) and third-placed finisher Bago (‘you would want to be a backer rather than a layer’) as three of his five horses to follow for the race. Just for good measure, our man-at-the-rails also recommended you layed Motivator, who finished fifth.

Now, did any mug punters out there take the 300/1 about Chelsea winning all their Premiership games this season? We sincerely hope not, because as our new columnist Ed Murray pointed out last month, the real odds were around 5,000/1. And indeed it proved a task too far for Jose Mourinho’s boys anyway – anybody tempted by the ridiculous prices would have been left looking daft a few weeks later when Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Everton on 23 October ended their winning streak.
Elsewhere, we must confess to getting our football Picks of the Month wrong, with just one winner in six, so we’re looking to make amends this month. But it looks like Tony Cascarino called Charlton’s Premiership fortunes correct – he reckoned they’d stay in the top six for the rest of the season and, at the time of writing, they remain one of Chelsea’s closest challengers.
Okay, not that close, but you know what we mean…
