Saturday’s races

More success from our resident expert

Paul comes good again for us with Stevie Gee and Honourable Love galloping to victory this past Saturday at some good prices.

Doncaster

The Listed Doncaster Mile due off at 3.35 looks an absolute crackerjack and many will want to be on the side of Don’t Panic after his superb success in the Spring Mile over this course and distance.

However, this is a different day and indeed a very different racing surface and if you are hell bent on backing the horse again then don’t take less than 2/1. It could be that he is such a progressive horse that a follow up win is on the cards, but with so many pundits talking up his price to such an extent, I reckon he will prove no value whatsoever in this better class race.

So which horse do we choose instead? Well Babodana rushed back to form in the Lincoln and I supect would have won that first big handicap of the season had he been held up a wee bit longer.

Like Don’t Panic though, his chance could well be shaped by the ground and he does like to get his toe in which means he could well get outpaced in this smaller field and more tactical event.

I have heard that Smart Enough has bene working well, but I still prefer the four-year-old DUBAI’S TOUCH (NAP), well worth another chance following his two defeats on the sand recently. However, those two races were very much on a par with the contests on the turf which many of his rivals have been running in.

I actually think this drop to a mile will suit Mark Johnston’s charge and along with Blythe Knight, these are the two I will be taking the favourite on with.

Later on, Kenmore was going to be the call for the 4.10, but again I wanted to see more give in the ground for him and I would rather give STEVIE GEE another chance. He should be tight fit now and drawn in the middle of the pack is spot on for him as I feel he is a much better horse covered up to the max.

KING OF SWORDS (blinkered for the first time) could go well at a double figure price in the sprint handicap at 3.05, while I can also pass on a good word for HONOURABLE LOVE (nb) in the fillies’ event due off at 5.15.
