NFL preview part 7

The NFC South has a few interesting teams this year that could do well

NFC CONFERENCE SOUTH

Pre-season Standings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3 – 1

Atlanta Falcons 2 – 2

Carolina Panthers 2 – 2

New Orleans Saints 2 – 2

A wide open division except the continuing shambles that is Atlanta Falcons. Two sides here have good claims for me.

The New Orleans Saints have the best protected passer in the league in Drew Brees and with new tight end Jeremy Shockey have greater blocking and another outlet for the short pass. They have been steadily working upwards and now have a year to claim divisional dominance and set for the play-offs.
There is no problem with the run with Reggie Bush and what they have done in the off season is completely revamp the defense that was so poor last year. This means they should be a force and should win the Division.

Their main contender is the Carolina Panthers. Or it should be as they go back to a running game. What concerns me here is the lack of a wide game barring Steve Smith and can Julius Peppers regain the excellent form of two and three years ago and get some sacks for the defense. They should win more than they lose but there are plenty of questions about this franchise.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – old, getting older and in need of some luck on injuries as Jeff Garcia is a 37 year old QB. They have tried to shore up the defense and that has to be a concern if they are to retain their title.

Atlanta Falcons – still suffering the Michael Vick fallout and hardly worth considering as they try to rebuild the ethos of the franchise.
