NFL preview part 5

Fletch turns his attentions to the NFC East and reigning champs the Giants

Terrell Owens is combustible when asleep

NFC CONFERENCE EAST

Pre-season Standings

Washington Redskins 3 – 2
Dallas Cowboys 2 – 2
New York Giants 2 – 2
Philadelphia Eagles 2 -2

A good strong division with last year’s Superbowl winners and every team 8-8 or better.

New York GiantsEli Manning shocked me last year by actually taking them all the way but what we must not forget was how much of the hard work was done by their superb defense and defense coordinator. They sacked Tom Brady 5 times in the Superbowl!! However players like Michael Stranahan have left and the Giants are reliant on Plexico Burress catching the ball and his ankle holding up, Manning improving his ordinary regular season stats and the defense (despite many defections) equalling last years’ 53 sacks. Not likely for me so these are a team to trade against.

Dallas Cowboys – Oooohh. Tony Romo is a young buck QB but one that has imploded in big games, Terrell Owens is combustible when asleep so when lively and upset he is fearsome and potentially a dressing room disaster. Plus now there is huge pressure on the franchise as they have favourites tags, and they will feel every jolt hard. The Cowboys should win the Division but to do that they must run the ball well to help Romo.

The Eagles and the Redskins are still rebuilding and while they will be competitive they should not have enough to displace Dallas. If they do then some people in Dallas are going to be sacked. Eagles need Asante Samuel to deliver interceptions while Redskins need Jason Campbell to deliver some improvement at QB or it is hard work for Coach Zorn in his first year.
