It was all too easy for Man Utd as they triumphed 4-0 at Craven Cottage
Manchester United just cannot be stopped this season. Let’s hope you all lumped on at the amazingly generous price of 1.93 as United went on to absolutely destroy Fulham 4-0, at a canter. The FA Cup has been good to us this season so roll on the semi-finals!
Fulham have been playing well at Craven Cottage this season and although Manchester United have Inter Milan and the Champions League on the horizon, the visitors should never be just shy of the 2.00 mark when the two meet on Saturday. United can seal their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a win and look the bet of the weekend.
Fulham have performed admirably under Roy Hodgson since he took over and if they can cling on to a top half finish in the Premier League then that will be some achievement for the Englishman and his side. Fulham currently sit in tenth and with a Uefa Cup spot this season probably on offer for the side finishing eighth, European football next campaign is still not out of the question.
When Hodgson took over at the London club Fulham were staring relegation to the Championship, and possibly beyond, in the face. He has done a magnificent job however and only Saturday’s opponents and Manchester City have won more games on home soil this season than the Cottagers. That said, they were beaten by Hull in front of their home fans on Wednesday and now face a team chasing glory on all fronts.
While Fulham were succumbing to Phil Brown’s side in a scrappy Premier League clash, United were bagging another three points, this time at Newcastle, and the domestic treble, at least, is very much on. With the title seemingly at their mercy, last Sunday’s Carling Cup triumph means the FA Cup looks like being the last leg of an historic season and Sir Alex will be keen to keep the winning habit going.
Although Fergie may choose to rest players ahead of a date with Jose Mourinho and his men at Old Trafford on Wednesday I don’t expect a complete overhaul of the team that won at St. James Park and, with United still so strong defensively, one goal could be enough for them to book their place in the last four.
I think Wayne Rooney could well get the nod in attack, possibly alongside Carlos Tevez, and I’m sure that the Scot would be keen to avoid a replay. He’d take one, if necessary, but United can always be relied upon to take the game to their opponents in a one-off match and this should be no different.
Having not tasted defeat for an age it seems strange that the World Champions have seemingly been underrated by the layers in recent weeks but that means we can continue to take advantage and Saturday’s recommendation is a strong one. Fulham were awful at Old Trafford last month when thrashed 3-0 and struggled to get the better of Swansea in the last 16.
