Two premiership teams were in action on Wednesday night but only one progressed
Two bankers here as it was goals galore on Wednesday night. Spurs thrashed Cardiff 4-0 while Newcastle were on the wrong end of a 5-1 hiding at home to Newcastle. With both bets in the totals goals over 2.5 market market, KER-CHING!
Having produced one of the games of the season so far on Sunday, Spurs and Newcastle are both involved in FA Cup replays on Wednesday night.
The Magpies edged a five goal thriller at White Hart Lane on the weekend and that highlighted the similar weaknesses and frailties of both sides. Each are more than decent going forward while their defending often leaves a lot to be desired.
Looking at the match odds for their respective games, Spurs host Cardiff while Newcastle entertain Birmingham, nothing much appeals. But taking a closer look at some recent stats reveals some potentially money making wagers in the total goals market.
While Spurs are often shot shy on their travels, their home form is up their with the best and they nearly always take the game to their opponents. Premiership games at White Hart Lane this season have produced 33 goals and that is over 2.5 per game.
Tellingly, nine of their last eleven encounters on home soil in all competition have produced at least three goals and although the 1.83 with Betfair might look short on the face of it for that trend to continue, the statistics make it a decent punt. Spurs like to put on a show.
Similarly up in Newcastle the home fans love to be entertained and St. James Park has seen some terrific action of late. Glenn Roeder’s team will always try to attack, their defence is to poor to play any other way, and that is backed up by the fact that nine of their last eleven matches have produced at least three goals. In fact, in their last three games the net has been found on at least four occasions.
With Birmingham riding high at the top of the Championship and with neither side likely to settle for penalties I also expect there to be goals in the north east on Wednesday and the 1.98 with Bet Direct in the overs market should also be taken. It could prove a very interesting night of cup action.
