After two 1-1 draws between Arsenal and Liverpool, Tom could only see one result in the final match
Tom nails it again as Liverpool triumphed 4-2 in a classic encounter.
Liverpool and Arsenal meet for the third time in a week at Anfield on Tuesday and it is advantage the five time european champions.
The home side managed to grab a well earned 1-1 draw at the Emirates last Wednesday in the first leg of their quarter final Champions League clash with the Gunners and I expect them to finish the job off in style.
While I confidently predicted success for the Gunners last week they looked a very tired side and, despite surviving a clear penalty claim following Dirk Kuyt’s rugby tackle on Alex Hleb, the visitors comfortable remained on level terms once the aforementioned Kuyt had equalised Emmanuel Adebayor’s opener.
With Liverpool having very little left to play for in the Premier League, Arsenal had the chance to gain the psychological edge with victory over Tuesday’s opponents in the second instalment of this fascinating trilogy on Saturday but even a hugely weakened Liverpool side had enough about them to grind out another 1-1 draw and I can only see one result this week.
While it is true that Liverpool only need a goalless draw to progress having claimed that vital away goal at the Emirates they will be extremely wary of the threat that Arsenal still pose going forward and I think they will go looking for an early goal to ease any nerves.
The Kop is sure to create an electric atmosphere and, as we have seen so many times down they years, their passionate support can make all the difference.
With Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres returning fresh having been rested on the weekend I make Liverpool a really good punt to win on the night and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it fairly comfortably in the end.
At 2.44 they certainly rate a bet and I expect them to set up a semi final, yet again, with Chelsea who should have enough about them to edge past Fenerbahce.
