Champions League

It was crunch time in the World’s finest club competition with the quarter-final second legs

Spot on here, but it was close! Michael Essien’s 90th minute goal saw the Blues through.

The return legs of the Champions League quarter finals this week and there is a real possibility of the Premiership providing all but one team in the last four. Liverpool are all but there while Manchester United must fancy their chances of overturning Roma at Old Trafford. The toughest assignment however lies with Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho takes his team to the Mestalla to play Valencia knowing that that the Blues must score at least once. A 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge means the La Liga side hold a slight advantage but the winning mentality has retuned to the Premiership champions in recent weeks and at odds-against they should be backed to advance.

The first encounter was pretty evenly poised but Mourinho’s side probably had the clearer openings and the Portuguese maestro is certainly the man to conjure up something special in European competition. His record is the envy of most while the recent return from injury of John Terry has been a massive boost.

The 2.10 on Betfair for Chelsea to makes the last four looks about right and it is the only selection in the Champions League this week. Having already advised Bayern Munich to make the semis, I’ll also be hoping the Germans have what it takes to get the better of AC Milan. With two away goals, I am confident they will.
