Manchester bookie Fred Done has found someone to take him on in his proposed £1million bet. That man is none other than rival bookie Victor Chandler, who has taken up Done’s challenge by taking Chelsea’s side of the bet.
Done challenged someone to come up with a million pounds to back against his million that Manchester United would finish ahead of Chelsea at the end of this Premiership season.
Talking to the press, Chandler said, ‘I responded immediately, but came to a gentleman’s agreement that if there were any other takers then I would stand aside.
‘In fact, the whole bet is an agreement between gentlemen.
‘It will make the season interesting for both of us. From my point of view it means that I have no idea who I will be championing later in the season. Obviously, with the volume of bets, both big and small stakes that we take during the season, the bet has no significance on our pricing.
‘I will be switching my allegiance based on where the money goes in the company.
‘Nevertheless, we will be looking for ways, as always, to pass some of the value back to our smaller customers in specials on Man Utd and Chelsea.’
Based on their performances so far, it looks like VC may be the man most likely to pocket the cash, as the Blues beat United 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Of course, there are sure to be many twists and turns as the season progresses, so the bet is far from over…
