Harp Star is a great bet in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on October 5
Japanese trainers have obviously been opening too many umbrellas, walking underneath too many ladders, breaking too many mirrors or a combination of all three in recent years.
When it comes to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Japanese-trained runners have been incredibly unfortunate, taking bridesmaid honours with Orfevre in each of the last two years and previously with Nakyama Festa in 2010.
This year they seem to have finally learnt their lesson though – that it is girl power that rules at Longchamp. Fillies have won four of the last six editions of the Arc and this sequence includes each of the last three. Harp Star is the first Japanese-trained filly to be aimed at the Arc. It also helps that she is a three-year-old, which has been the age group of eight of the last 10 winners.
The fact that Harp Star has run within 50 days of the Arc, which takes place on October 5th, is also a statistic in her favour, while her form is hard to argue with.
She was given far too much to do in the Japanese Oaks, when rocketing home down the outside to finish second by 1/4 of a length and the victor of that contest Nuovo Record has won a Group 2 contest with ease since. Meanwhile, Harp Star has won her own Group 2 with a bit in hand and at 8/1 in the Arc betting with BetVictor, she looks banker each-way material at worst.
Recommended bet: Harp Star e/w in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at 8/1 with BetVictor
