Hamid Feiz is the current chip leader – can he hold onto his lead after Day 1C today?
The first two Day 1s of the 2015 WSOP Main Event have been played and numbers are slightly down on last year. By the time late registration closed yesterday a total of 2,457 players had bought in, with 1,624 of these still alive and kicking and ready for their Day 2 on Wednesday.
Day 1C is always the busiest day of the Main Event. Last year 3,768 players brought the total numbers to 6,683. If the 2015 Main Event is going to top this it’s going to need 4,226 players today, which would also be the largest Main Event starting field in history. We’re going take the unders.
Barny Boatman got off the to the quickest start, his Queens running down the Aces of Mohammed Ayyash to bust him after just 30 minutes, but he wouldn’t survive the day. Lots of other big names fell at the first hurdle as well, including Erik Seidel, Steve O’Dwyer, Scott Seiver, Jonathan Little and Dan Smith.
The chip leader from the first two Day 1s is Hamid Feiz, with 182,675 from a starting stack of just 30,000. At this point in the tournament last year a certain Martin Jacobson was leading the way with 200,100 – and he went on to win the bracelet and the $10m first prize.
Feiz has got a long way to go though, with another six full days to play through before the November Nine are set. And there are plenty of big names with stacks as well. Dominik Nitsche, Matt Salsberg both bagged over 100k, with Greg Raymer, George Danzer, Daniel Colman, Jennifer Tilly, Brian Hastings, Mike Matusow, Jonathan Duhamel, Fabian Quoss, Fedor Holz and Brian Rast all with above average stacks.
And there’s still Day 1C to go. By this time tomorrow we’ll have the final numbers in the bag, along with news on Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and the rest of the superstars hoping to get a fast start in the 2015 Main Event.
