Bruno Fitoussi and Chris Moneymaker lead the star-studded event after Day 1
Day 1 of WSOP Event # 2 brought many of the world’s biggest hitters together as the $ 40,000 buy-in event got underway yesterday. An event that commemorates the 40th Annual World Series, an opening day highlight was seeing arguably three of the world’s best players sat at table 70 going head to head.
While Scotty Nguyen, Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey all went toe-to-toe on this star-studded table, other big-names such as Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and Scott Seiver could be seen across the floor.
At the end of day 1, Frenchman Bruno Fitoussi, and 2003 main event champ Chris Moneymaker sit at the helm of the 89 strong field. Pushing 805,000 chips, Moneymaker sits in a strong position, but knows there is much more to do along the way: “It’s only the end of day 1 and there’s a long way to go…I can be patient but I don’t have to do anything stupid”.
Day 2 play resumes at 2 p.m Pacific Time, which will see live coverage in Britain running from 10pm this evening. Make sure you check for updates on PokerPlayer and InsidePoker.
