It’s time to get out those shiny new Christmas diaries and put a circle around these crucial dates in 2014
1. PokerPlayer Tour Leg 1
March 1-2, The Vic, London, £150+£15
Why?
It’s the first leg of the UK’s best ever low-stakes tour. We’ll be there to ensure that everyone has fun, and there’ll be a fantastic first prize and trophy to win. The 2014 PPT also sports a new leaderboard – win this and we’ll sponsor you for next year!
But I can’t afford that…
If this is above your budget, check out leg 5 at the Grosvenor G Casino Coventry – this one-day event is just £50!
2. PKR Live
March 28-30, Aspers (London), $450+$50
Why?
It’s the first time a Mixed Max event has ever been held in the UK. You start off at nine-handed tables on Day 1, move to six-max on Day 2 and then the final 16 players battle it out heads-up to crown a winner. Fun!
But I can’t afford that…
If $500 is a steep outlay for you then PKR are already running lots of satellites and they are notoriously soft too.
3. UKIPT Nottingham
May 7-12, Dusk Till Dawn (Nottingham), £1,000+£100
Why?
There’s a ONE MILLION POUND GUARANTEED PRIZE POOL. For a £1,100 tourney. Last time they tried this in 2012 they smashed the guarantee and the winner walked away with £210k. Expect the same this time round.
But I can’t afford that…
PokerStars are the masters of online satellites – what are you waiting for?
4. Big One for One Drop
June 29 – July 1, Rio Casino (Las Vegas), $1,000,000
Why?
The biggest event of the millennium returns with a $1m buy-in and an expected field of 56 mental millionaires who will battle it out for the largest prize in poker history.
But I can’t afford that…
Of course you can’t! But if you’re out in Vegas this is the tourney to rail with every poker superstar on the planet attempting to surpass original champion Antonio Esfandiari and his $18m score.
5. Estrellas Poker Tour, Barcelona
August 17-27, Casino Barcelona, €1,000+€100
Why?
The 2013 Barca leg of Spain’s UKIPT equivalent drew a whopping 1,798 players – the largest 1k tournament to take place outside of Vegas ever. It’s also on the beach and in one of the greatest cities in the world. Need any more persuading?
But I can’t afford that…
Take a holiday to Barca anyway and try your hand at a few live satellites. If you win, great. If you don’t, you’re still in Barcelona – it’s win/win!
6. PokerPlayer Tour Grand Final
November 22-23, The Vic (London), £200+£20
Why?
It’s the climactic final of the UK’s best low-stakes poker tour – and we’ll be there. That’s a few hundred quid of dead money in the pot right away.
But I can’t afford that…
Freerolls and cheap satellites will be running nearer the time – and with seven legs around the UK before that you have plenty of time to build up a bankroll too.
