A pub poker player from Scotland is celebrating becoming the 2015 UK Pub Poker Champion after a high profile tournament in Las Vegas
Gordon Cuthill, from St Andrews has just returned home as champion after a free 7-day trip to Las Vegas which included a qualifying tournament into the WSOP Colossus Event and the Redtooth Poker Vegas 100 tournament where he beat 99 other players on the day.
The finale of a year-long tournament saw more than 30,000 entries. He secured the £10,000 top prize, which included a £5,000 sponsorship deal, in a nail-biting conclusion. Three other players from Scotland featured in the top 20. In its ninth year, Vegas 100, is the UK’s largest live pub poker league with more than 1,000 venues. More than 180,000 players have registered with the event since it was launched.
Gordon, who plays at the Ceres Inn, in Ceres, Fife, said: ‘I feel completely numb. I honestly can’t believe that I have done it and actually won the Vegas 100! It’s such a great prize package. It really is awesome. When I came to Vegas I did feel pretty confident and early on I played a couple of games well which made me think I had a chance of winning the tournament – but so did 99 other people and so it’s only just sinking in that I have actually won it! The trip to Vegas has been a great experience from start to finish and everyone at Redtooth has been absolutely brilliant. I will really look forward to coming back next year for the chance to retain my title.’
Gordon had progressed through numerous local and regional tournaments, before winning the National Final and securing his ticket to Las Vegas. Martin Green, Managing Director of Redtooth Poker, said: ‘Over the years the competition has just got bigger and better. We are absolutely delighted for Gordon and would like to congratulate him on winning this prestigious tournament. He fought off incredibly tough competition to win the title. To be the best amateur pub poker player in the UK is a fantastic achievement, he should be very proud.’
