Huge field at the latest Grosvenor 25/25 Series proves poker’s on the up in the UK
We’ve been enjoying a mini heatwave recently, but that didn’t deter 400 players from ponying up the £220 to play in the latest Grosvenor 25/25 Series main event at The Poker Room in the Grosvenor Victoria Casino. This is a new record for a 25/25 Series main event, and it meant that the prize pool, which was guaranteed at £25,000, ended being a massive £80,000!
With over £60,000 of this up for grabs at the final table, a deal was quickly made when the action was down to six, with each player guaranteed at least £8,000. It was local regular Ghassan Chehbi who ended up capturing the 25/25 title after beating Craig Goddard in a gruelling late-night heads-up battle. This win for Chehbi saw him treble his previous best tournament result of £4,640 as he took home £14,485 along with the coveted trophy and the ultimate bragging rights of beating the largest 25/25 Series field in history.
The next Grosvenor 25/25 Series events will be taking place this coming weekend at Grosvenor G Casino Southampton and the Grosvenor G Casino Blackpool. If you’ve been inspired to play either of these click here for more info.
Speaking of breaking records, the Grosvenor Goliath event is fast approaching. Last year the Ricoh Arena in Coventry attracted 1,822 entries for the Goliath main event, generating a prize pool of £257,000! 353 players have already qualified for this year’s event so expect similar numbers and a similarly huge first prize.
There’s a special bonus at this year’s Goliath as well – Leg 5 of the awesome PokerPlayer Tour. Bust out of the Goliath Main Event and you can join us for more action. Click here for more details and make sure you join the PokerPlayer gang in Coventry for our one-day £50+£6 Deep & Steep special.
