Next week Aspers casino in London will host the latest event in PKR.com’s successful PKR Live series. To put a special twist on it the $500 main event will be held in a unique Mixed Max format, the first of its kind in the UK. The rules of a Mixed Max event are simple; on Day 1 the tournament plays out as a standard 9-handed table before moving to a 6-max format on Day 2 and finally into a Heads-up format on Day 3 when just 16 players remain.
It will be an interesting experiment and should be a lot of fun for all the players involved – especially those that make it to the heads-up stage! If you want to play in PKR Live then satellites are running on PKR.com from today until Monday March 24 – check the PKR lobby for full details. If the $500 buy-in for main event is a bit too steep for you then the good news is that PKR are also putting on a plethora of excellent side events, including a £110 2-day Deepstack event, and a £35 Triple Shootout that will be perfect for sit-and-go experts. Full details of the schedule can be found here.
As Mixed Max tournaments are so rare in the poker world – and have never been held in the UK before – PokerPlayer.co.uk consulted resident strategy expert and Team PKR Pro Simon ‘Rhymenocerous’ Hemsworth for some priceless strategy that should take you all the way to the heads-up stages.
