Switzerland’s Jonathan Roux has won the second PKR Live event of 2013, collecting $22,215 for the victory. The 27-year-old is based in London and, while an Omaha specialist, had enough skill to see off a tough final table for the biggest cash of his career. Players could directly buy in to the $500 event or qualify cheaply online at PKR.com. The 3D poker site has been running PKR Live events since November 2008 and this was the eighth event in total.
204 players entered the tournament, held at the luxurious Aspers casino, which overlooks London’s Olympic stadium. The entirety of PKR Team Pro – including PokerPlayer.co.uk friends Sofia Lovgren and Simon Hemsworth – all played but only WSOPE bracelet winner Scott Shelley could breach the cash payouts, finishing in 12th position for $1,615.
As ever at PKR Live weekends, the emphasis was just as much on fun away from the tables as it was on the poker. PKR were on hand to give out plenty of free drinks at the bar and organised community sit-and-gos to ensure that all players had a great time. Much like the Sky Poker Tour, events run by sites which place a lot of importance on the community aspect are always excellent fun to attend, and they’ve carved out a real niche in the live poker world. As one of the originators of the community live tournament, PKR are still delivering quality events every year. Stay tuned to PokerPlayer.co.uk for news on the next PKR Live in 2014.
