Luis Suarez is the latest to join 888poker’s impressive roster of talent, adding to the recent signings of Sofia Lovgren and Xuan Lui. The Uruguayan signs soon after scooping the 2014 Professional Footballer’s Association Player of the Year award for his impressive performances on the pitch, scoring 31 league goals in a hugely successful season.
Apparently Uruguay’s all-time leading goalscorer is a keen poker player, but he’s also prone to controversial incidents and it remains to be seen whether his card game will have as much bite (sorry!) as his performances on the football field.
In April 2013 Suarez was handed a huge ten-match ban after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic – the second biting incident of his career. The 27-year-old also served an eight-game suspension during the 2011-12 season after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. However, in a season leading up to the World Cup in Brazil, Suarez appears to have curbed such behaviour.
Poker might be a non-contact affair, but we think there are still a few misdemeanors Suarez could pick up. Perhaps Liverpool’s number seven might be tempted into the murky world of slowrolling? PokerPlayer is also looking forward to the moment when he waves an imaginary card at the dealer, only to realise there are two right in front of him…
Joking aside, Luis Suarez is a huge name in world sport and another big signing for 888poker. He will become an integral member of Team 888poker, regularly playing online on the site as well as participating in live events and money-can’t-buy experiences.
