Social gaming has finally penetrated the poker world and the proof is in the Apple iTunes 2012 ‘App’ round-up, which has revealed that Zynga Poker is the highest grossing app of the year in both the UK and US. First released back in 2010, Zynga’s social gaming poker app has taken a while to find its feet in the highly competitive social-gaming market, but now its position at the top of this year’s highest-grossing app chart confirms that the game has well and truly arrived. According to the figures, the app now has over 30 million active users playing this form of play-money online poker either on their smartphone devices or also via their Facebook accounts.
PokerPlayer.co.uk has previously written about Zynga Poker and its intent on breaking into the real-money market in the near future. With numbers like these it is evident that it will only take a small proportion of Zynga users to convert to real-money play before Zynga Poker becomes potentially the next online giant.
The company which is based in San Francisco, is hoping that US regulations will change in 2013 allowing real-money play to be legalised. The organisation is also currently rumoured to be in talks with a number of Nevada based partners should the US doors open. For now though, it will have to suffice with being one of the most successful play-money poker apps in the world!
