The 2008 World Series of Poker Europe starts airing on Channel 4 this Friday
Beginning late on Friday 9th January (01:35am) UK Broadcaster Channel 4 will be airing 8 hours of coverage from the World Series Of Poker Europe presented by Betfair. The event which was held at the prestigious Casino at the Empire in central London will be shown every week for 8 weeks.
The World Series of Poker Europe presented by Betfair was part of the official WSOP circuit and contained one of the most competitive and exciting fields ever assembled. The event was played out during September and October last year and saw four new bracelet winners crowned.
The £10,000 main event featured an all-star cast from both sides of the pond including, Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda, Annette Obrestad, Phil Ivey, Neil Channing, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson.
The first show on Channel 4 is at 01:35 am late on Friday/Saturday 9th January and will be co-hosted by Norman Chad and Lon McEachern. The programme will have an “intimate look and feel” according to ESPN senior director of programming and acquisitions Doug White. Thanks to a new innovation called the Mobile Hole Card Camera it is now possible to show the hole cards from key hands at many of the outer tables in addition to the feature table thus giving fans a greater understanding of the overall story behind the tournament, and how they advanced to the final table.
David Yu, CEO of Betfair, commented: “The World Series of Poker Europe presented by Betfair was a hugely successful event and we eagerly anticipate watching it on Channel 4 this year. ESPN has delivered an innovative and entertaining programme which I am sure will keep viewers watching every week.”
Channel 4 will be showing WSOPE episodes in the UK every Friday January 9th – 27th February. Please check the Betfair Poker website for further schedules including European Channels showing the event.
