WSOPE Starts With Sell-out Event

The opening £2,500 Six-Handed NLHE event at the 2010 WSOPE is a sell-out

The 2010 WSOPE kicked off in grand fashion yesterday with a sell-out field of 244 players in the opening £2,500 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em event. It is the first time that a six-handed event has featured at the WSOPE.

London’s Casino At The Empire again plays host to the WSOPE this year and the stars were out in attendance yesterday. Phil Ivey, Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan and Mike Matusow among others all played but failed to make it through the day. Just 31 players bagged up chips and will be returning today – and there is plenty of hope left for a UK bracelet. PokerPlayer contributor Jamie Sykes, two-time WSOP bracelet winner Praz Bansi, John Tabatabai, Chris Moorman and EPT champ Liv Boeree are all still in contention alongside familiar overseas names like Phil Laak and Chris Bjorin. Andrew Pantling is the overnight chip leader.

We’ll have more daily updates from the Empire as the WSOPE progresses.
