WSOPE hits UK screens

Sky Sports finally show Annette Obrestad’s historic WSOPE victory

It may have happened over 6 months ago but the UK is finally being given the chance to watch Annette Obrestad make history by becoming the first ever World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion, and also the youngest recipient of a bracelet in WSOP history.

The teenage Norwegian beat out 362 fellow professional poker players who had stumped up the £10,000 entry fee, collecting a very cool £1,000,000 for her troubles. The event was the first time the World Series of Poker had moved to Europe and was held in three different London casinos – the Vic, the Fifty and the Sportsman.

The event is being screened on Sky Sports beginning Monday 21st April. Refreshingly, a new episode will be shown on consecutive nights for a full week so viewers can get fully immersed in a tournament that included top poker superstars from around the world such as Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu and Gus Hansen. The WSOPE turned into a coming-out party for young online pros such as Annette and the UK’s own John Tabatabai and it will be fascinating to wathc the old and new guards duke it out at last from the comfort of your home.
