Players gather in Barcelona to play for their countires and contend the World Cup of Poker
The World Cup of Poker is under way in Barcelona, as top pros and online players band together along national lines to do battle for big prizes.
As the tourney enters its second day of play at the Gran Casino Barcelona, Team PokerStars newest member Daniel Negreanu has taken his place in the spotlight, debuting as Team Captain for Canada.
After observing yesterday’s heats Negreanu said "It’s more than just poker. There’s so much else you have to think about in this team format."
Eight teams including Germany (Team PoketrStars Captain, Katja Thater), Ireland, Iceland, Portugal, Romania, Mexico, USA (Team PokerStars Captain, Greg Raymer) and Canada (Team PokerStars Captain, Daniel Negreanu) still remain locked in battle, all fuelled by the desire to haul their country into the next round of the World Cup and ultimately win $220,000 in prize money.
The final is set for Friday 7 September and will feature the top four teams.
