Ashton ‘theashman’ Griffin wins FullTilt’s $ 25k Heads-Up Title
The FullTilt $ 25k Heads-Up World Championship came to a conclusion on Sunday evening as Ashton “theASHMAN103” Griffin saw off respected-pro David ‘Raptor’ Benefield in the final.
In the final four, the winning hand of the semi saw eventual victor Griffin’s pocket ladies hold up against Blair “yogiblair” Andersons’ pocket 5’s. Meanwhile, Benefield edged a close contest with Jim “WinnerFish” Kilarjian to set up the final contest of the championship.
Despite telling PokerPlayer only last month that he would be somewhat forsaking Hold’Em in favour of PLO, Benefield entered the day 2 final bout hoping to take off with the $ 551,250 dollar prize. However having beaten four stellar opponents along the way to the final including last year’s champion David Singer, Griffin was in confident mood.
Ultimately, it was to be the 20 year old from North Carolina who took the title, leaving Benefield to settle for the $ 315,000 runners up payout.
