New addition to the Team PokerStars roster Swede William Thorson is ready and raring to go
PokerStars has announced a new addition to Team PokerStars Pro after signing William Thorson, Swedish pro poker player. Thorson’s first appearance as a Team PokerStars Pro player will be at the 2008 World Series of Poker. He will represent PokerStars throughout the year at numerous other poker tournaments and online at PokerStars.com
William has cashed four times at the WSOP with his most notable success in the 2006 WSOP coming 13th in the Main Event and winning $907,128. His live tournament winnings to date already exceed $1,800,000; he made the final table at the PokerStars EPT San Remo and finished 9th at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure earlier this year.
“We’re thrilled to sign the number one player on the Swedish poker scene, William has had great success, and now as a member of Team PokerStars Pro we believe he’ll raise his game further in the year to come.” said Michael Holmberg, Regional Manager Nordics and Baltics for PokerStars.
William, from Varberg in Sweden has been playing poker for as long as he can remember, learning the game from his father and playing full time since graduating high school. His first experience of online poker was with PokerStars back in 2002 when he joined the site to practise his game on the free money tables and eventually progressed on to the real money games – his success is marked by the fact that since opening his account, he has only ever deposited $50 to his PokerStars account.
“To be a member of Team PokerStars Pro is an honour for me. It’s a great team with many of the world’s greatest players and I’m honoured to be included in such company – as a player I’m very proud to have my skills recognised in this way. It’s a great opportunity for me and I hope to be able to achieve big results” said Thorson
Thorson plays online as ‘William’ at PokerStars.com, proving just how long he’s been a member of the site – a new user now would be lucky to find any popular name like “William” still unused! “As a member of Team PokerStars Pro I hope I can become an even better player than I am today and grow together with PokerStars”.
William joins a PokerStars Pro roster that already includes names such as Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer, Joe Hachem, Barry Greenstein, Isabelle Mercier, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Bertrand Grospellier, Humberto Brenes and 17 other top pros from around the world.
