Online qualifier turns £5 into £12,675 after defeating 194-man.
This season’s Sky Poker Tour kicked off in style with Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn poker club playing the gracious host for the opening leg. The main-event was a £220 six-max, 180-cap affair with 194 runners taking part in total once all of the alternates were accoounted for.
A star-studded affair, a host of the leading Team Sky Poker Pros were amongst those competing with names like Julian Thew, James Williams (winner of last years Sky Poker Tour Grand Final) and Darren Stanley all in attendance.
Starting with 15,000 chips, play began on Saturday afternoon and it took until late Sunday evening before the final hand was played out.
Going into the heads-up battle the two men left with all of the chips were online qualifier, Mariusz Srok and Basharat Mahmood. Srok held the substantial chip lead after almost single handedly eliminating the final table, claiming three out of a possible four scalps. Once heads-up, it wasn’t too long before he added a fourth and final after all the money went in on a flop of Q93 and Sroks’ AQo held up versus Mahmoods J9o.
The victory earned Srok £12,675, while Mahmood took home £7,410 for his runner-up spot.
Here’s how the final table finished up:
1. Mariusz Srok – £12,675
2. Basharat Mahmood – £7,410
3. Paul Green – £4,446
4. Shaun King – £3,120
5. Ben Nuttall – £2,340
6. Richard Horton – £1,755
Srok’s win puts him top of the 2011/12 Sky Poker Tour leaderboard, with the eventual winner at the close of the season earning a Team Sky Poker membership, plus their buy-ins paid, for each of next seasons Sky Poker Tour events.
The next stop on the Sky Poker Tour is Newcastle, where the Aspers Casino plays host to a special £110 low buy-in, one day main event.
