Romanello rules in Bratislava

The Welsh Wizard banks his first WPT title

High flying Roberto Romanello outlasted 210 players to secure his first WPT title in Bratislava last week, following on from his mainden EPT victory late last year.

With a WPT Championship seat and Tiffany’s bracelet up for grabs on top of the €140,685 first prize, the Welshman was overcome with emotion upon being crowned champ.

Taking the chip lead into the final table, Romanello knocked out two of his opponents before curshing Mayu Roca heads-up. Victory came when the Welshman’s pocket fives held up against Roca’s AK – the third time that Romanello had faced AK on the final table with his hand holding each time.

This WPT win is Romanello’s biggest since banking €640,000 in Prague last December,  and means he is only one WSOP bracelet away from securing the illustrious triple crown, joining the likes of Roland de Wolfe and Gavin Griffin en route.

With the WSOP just around the corner, PokerPlayer’s rooting for Romanello to take it down!

Here’s how the final table finished:

1 Roberto Romanello €140,685
2 Mayu Roca €71,000
Alexander Jager €42,000
4 Frank Dollinger €33,000
5 Jesper Hoog €26,000
6 Chris Williamson €21,000
7 Bodo Sbrzesny €17,000
8 Marek Tatar €14,000
9 Lubomir Kudlicka: €11,000
