Raymer on Warnie

Never knowingly lost for words, Team PokerStars’ Greg Raymer was hobnobbing with greatness last week.

On a brief business trip to London, the Fossilman found himself in a poker tournament next to a bleach blond Australian who badgered him for poker tips.

To millions of sports fans around the world, the Aussie bloke was instantly recognisable as cricket superstar Shane Warne.

Raymer, who has played poker and golf benefit events with top US sports stars such as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, has no knowledge of cricket or leg spin bowling, but he was able to give this typically candid assessment of Mr Warne:

“Shane plays a solid game of poker, and looks like a guy who could do well, particularly in tournament play,” said Raymer.

“He didn’t make any obvious mistakes that I saw, although if I were being hyper critical I might say that his hand selection was just a bit loose, statistically speaking.”
