Poker giant is linked to record-breaking sponsorship deal
Mansion, the poker giant based in Gibraltar is rumoured to be in talks with Manchester United football club with a view to becoming the club’s shirt sponsor. The club’s current sponsorship deal, with telecoms company Vodafone, is due to expire at the end of the season.
The possible deal, reported in the UK Sunday newspaper The News of the World could be worth a massive £60m over four years, making it the biggest shirt deal in history.
A United insider told The News of the World: "Mansion are the front runners. Their offer is a fantastic one and officials here believe the deal should be signed, sealed and delivered before the end of March."
The agreement would see Mansion join 888.com as highly visible sponsors of a Premiership football team, with 888.com already sponsoring Middlesborough to great effect.
Mansion recently signed the biggest ever televised poker deal with Fox Sports Network for the Pokerdome Series, and they look keen to increase their profile with the general public. The Pokerdome Series will feature high stakes, new formats and ground-breaking technology, all of which are highlighted by three multi-million dollar winner-take-all mega-events.
The deal would be more great news for Manchester United who on Sunday completed a 4-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the Carling Cup Final played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
More proof that poker is big business and here to stay.
