Site first to pay since Black Friday
PokerStars has announced that $100m in seized US player funds has been returned to users one month on from the events of Black Friday.
According to PokerStars, the site is still processing some player’s requests for funds, but many have now received money following an agreement struck with America’s Department of Justice on April 20.
By April 27, PokerStars claims funds were already being returned as the company had kept player’s money separate from company accounts and ‘the funds to cover these withdrawal requests’ were ‘readily available’.
Since the founders of PokerStars, Full Tilt and Absolute Poker were targeted by the DoJ for alleged bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling offence on April 15, poker players in the US have been unable to access funds left on the targeted sites.
PokerStars is now the first site to return funds, while it’s still unclear when, or if, Full Tilt and Absolute Poker will follow suit, despite Full Tilt reaching a similar agreement with the DoJ on April 20 to return US player funds.
