3D internet operator PKR is making a lot of students very happy with its live and online promotions
We at PokerPlayer only wish that poker was as big when we were students. Just think about all that time wasted either in the bar or watching daytime television that could have been spent honing our poker games and earning extra cash.
It’s all different now and most Uni and College campuses are hotbeds of poker activity. From home games to big multi-table tournaments, to online promotions, the choice of poker for the average student is fantastic.
The online operators have cottoned on to this, and most have a marketing strategy place. Victor Chandler and others have embraced student poker and PKR are involved in a big way.
Kicked off on 9 January 2007 and running over the next four months students from all over the country can compete in special live and online events to stake their claim as PKR Student Poker Champion with over $30,000 up for grabs.
The winner gets a seat at a European Poker Tour event valued at £3,000 plus travel and accommodation three mates.
As if that wasn’t enough, PKR is also throwing in a next generation games console (the winner’s choice of a Wii or a PS3), an LCD HD ready TV and an iPod with a docking station!
PKR Student Poker Tour is free to enter and exclusive to students living in the UK & Ireland. Getting involved is as easy as downloading PKR and playing in weekly $500 freerolls every Tuesday night at 19:00 GMT.
The top two finishers from each weekly online freeroll will qualify for the semi-final. Points will also be allocated to the top 20 players in each weekly freeroll and after the last freeroll on 8 May 2007 the top 5 players on the leaderboard will also get a seat in the semi final.
Students will also get their chance to compete for their shot at the big prize at a series of live events being held on campuses throughout the qualifying period. Venues for the live events will be chosen by students themselves.
The 60 seat Semi Final will be online at PKR on 22 May 2007 and the top ten finishers from the semi-final will play off in the Grand Final at a posh London venue with all the trappings you’d expect in a high-stakes poker tournament including a glamorous after party for all the contestants and friends.
In addition to the overall winners great prize package there will also be $1500 in prize money for the losing finalists.
Students? Easy life.
