The ‘Unabomber’ Phil Laak wins his first WSOP bracelet in the £2,500 Six-max NLHE event
Phil Laak has won the first event of the 2010 WSOPE. Victory in the £2,500 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em tournament was worth £170,802 to the popular American. It’s the first bracelet of Laak’s storied career and comes after a turbulent summer where he had a serious car crash, breaking his arm and damaging his eye in the process. Laak was sporting a Union Jack cast on the arm throughout yesterday’s final table.
The tournament was a sell-out with 244 players entering. Veteran British pro Willie Tann succumbed in 6th place collecting £23,900. Laak defeated Canadian pro Andrew Pantling heads-up.
The second event of the WSOPE, a £5,250 Pot Limit Omaha event, kicked off yesterday drawing 120 runners. 49 survived the first day and will be returning to play later today.
