19-year old Harrison Gimbel has beaten 1528 other players (the largest field in PCA history) to take the $2.2m first prize and become easily the biggest money winner of the year so far. Gimbel multiplied his initial investment by an astonishing 2,200 times, having won his seat the day before the tournament in a live $1,000 satellite.
Gimbel had to overturn an 11m chip deficit to Ty Reiman in the final heads-up and managed to do so after just 14 hands. From that point on, Gimbel remained the dominant force and in the final hand his pocket tens were well ahead of Reiman‘s eights.
Gimbel’s previous best (and only) live result was victory in the $800 Championship event at the 2009 Florida State Poker Championships.
‘I’m so excited,’ Gimbel said. ‘It’s been a really good day. It feels amazing. I’ve always wanted to win a major tournament and luckily I have accomplished it on one of my very first ones. A lot of these players were very good but I had a lot of confidence in myself coming into today and it really showed. I’m now going car shopping!’
