Nicholas Newport wins Irish Masters

Irish youngster claims €125,000 prize

Nicholas Newport has won the paddypowerpoker.com Irish Masters ahead of a 347-strong field in Dublin.

The local amateur claimed the €125,000 first prize in front of fellow Irishman Charlie Harvey after shoving on a spade heavy flop, one hour into heads-up action. A miracle third spade fell on the river to complete the Dubliner’s King-high flush and crush Harvey’s two pair.

But Newport is no stranger to the Irish poker scene after winning the Irish Series of Poker €500 Main Event this July for €10,000, and the Masters title marks his biggest cash to date. The win was made even sweeter considering a deal was brokered prior to heads-up which saw second and third place walking off with €66,750 apiece.

The €1,650 buy-in event rounded off paddypowerpoker.com’s four day Irish Winter Festival, which saw a host of games, including the first ever Blind Man’s Bluff World Championship, taking place in the shadow of a record breaking, three metre high chip stack, constructed in honour of the occasion.

“This year’s Irish Winter Festival was better than ever before and has definitely established itself as one of Europe’s most prestigious tournaments with over €500,000 in the main event prize pool,” declared Paddy Power, Communications Manager for paddypowerpoker.com.

The Irish Masters final table payouts were as follows:

1. Nicholas Newport €125,000
2. Charlie Harvey €66,750
3. Tom Finneran €66,750
4. Dominic McCloskey €42,000
5. Seamus Quinn €31,300
