Nenad Medic and Victoria Coren are announced for the new Premier League
PartyPoker.com is pleased to announce two more invitations to PartyPoker.com Premier League III, which will take place in London from the 24th – 30th November 2008. Canadian star Nenad Medic and the UK’s Victoria Coren join Annette Obrestad, Roland de Wolfe, Andy Black, Juha Helppi and JC Tran in the line-up.
Born in 1982 in Serbia and now a Canadian citizen, Medic is one of the hottest players in the poker world. He won a WSOP bracelet at the 2008 WSOP, scooping $794,112 after winning the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em World Championship at a star studded final table. Medic also won a mammoth first prize of $1,717,194 after winning the WPT World Poker Finals at Foxwoods in 2006. Since then he has cashed significantly in many major tournaments on the circuit, most recently finishing fourth at the 2008 WPT Festa Al Lago for $373,010.
Mike Sexton is a big fan of the Premier League’s newest recruit: “Nenad Medic is a ‘real’ player. He has won on the World Poker Tour and at the WSOP and all top players respect him. When it comes to players who excel in both cash games and tournaments, Nenad Medic is one of the best in the world.”
Medic said about his participation in Premier League: “I’m very excited about taking part in the Premier League and the opportunities and television exposure it gives. I think it will help that I know all the players involved.”
Also joining the line-up is the UK’s Victoria Coren. A writer, broadcaster, journalist and poker pro, Vicky is best known in the poker community for becoming the first woman to win an EPT event when she won the EPT London in 2006. Vicky has taken part in PartyPoker.com Premier Leagues I and II, making the final table in season one and narrowly missing out on repeating this feat in season two.
Vicky is excited about season three: ” I’m really pleased my friend Annette is in the new line-up, because I’m a huge fan of hers for many reasons. On the other hand, she’s the only one I fear. The rest of them are darling little poppets but – like all men – they can’t take pain, they can’t keep secrets, they can’t hide their feelings. They are emotional, stubborn, impatient and hamstrung by pride. When they put shelves up, they hammer their thumbs, wail, shriek and pretend to be fine when they’re obviously not. Translate that to the poker table: this is Christmas.”
PartyPoker.com Premier League III sees the buy-in elevated to $75,000 and the added money raised to $350,000, making a total prize pool of $1.25 million. The next event wasn’t due to take place until 2009 but the demands of international broadcasters for coverage of the event has brought it forward! The series developed by Matchroom Sport, features 12 of the world’s best players playing in a unique league format. All 12 players will play six times in the preliminary stages. The leading four players will then progress to the final table with the next four battling it out in heads-up matches for the final two seats.
