Matt Waxman wins first WSOPC event

Youngster beats a strong field in Atlantic City

Online whiz Matt Waxman has taken down a WSOP Circuit Main Event in Atlantic City, securing his first major live win for $117,800.

In total 351 players stumped up the $1,650 buy-in hoping for a shot at the title. But it was Waxman who took the top spot, beating Jesus Cabrera heads-up for the win.

Waxman was the underdog going into the final hand, but fortunately for the youngster from Florida he was on the right end of a six-figure suck out. When Cabrera went all-in pre-flop with pocket sixes he looked likely to double up against Waxman’s pocket threes. But a three on the flop handed Waxman the title, while the first-place finish guarantees his entry to the WSOP National Championship next May.

Playing under the alias BigStackBBQ, Waxman is already a respected grinder in the online world. He won $453,663 at this year’s Full Tilt Online XIII Main Event, pipping over 5,300 players to the title, and this week’s WSOPC win has pushed his live earnings over the $1m mark.

Speaking afterwards, Waxman, said: ‘I’ve been winning a lot of major online tournaments, so it feels really great to finally lock one up.’
