Youngster takes down 2-7 Lowball
Rochdale will be rocking this week as news of a second WSOP bracelet filters through from Vegas. Mere days after local son Jake Cody’s Triple Crown winning performance in the $25k Heads-Up Championship, best mate Matt Perrins became the second Rochdale native to take down a WSOP event in 2011, thanks to success in the no-limit Deuce-to-Seven Lowball Single Draw for $102,105.
Remarkably, Perrins hadn’t played much single Deuce-to-Seven Lowball before the $1,500 event, but that didn’t stop the 23-year-old online whizz from shipping the bracelet ahead of a stacked final table, which included bracelet winners Jason Mercier and Swedish legend Chris Bjorin.
Perrins was supported throughout the final table by a vocal British following, already a standout feature of this year’s series, and he’s promised to follow up on his Deuce-to-Seven success by entering the $10,000 Championship later in the series.
And with Cody and now Perrins flying the flag high for the Brits, the 2011 WSOP is already looking promising from this side of the pond. Be sure to check back with PokerPlayer throughout this year’s WSOP to see how the rest of Team Brit is getting on.
The $1,500 No Limit Deuce-to-Seven Lowball final table finished as follows:
1. Matt Perrins $102,105
2. Chris Bjorin $63,112
3. Robin Rightmare $41,643
4. Bernard Lee $28,422
5. Thomas Fuller $19,906
6. John Brikis $14,296
7. Jason Mercier $10,524
