Young star wins season closer in Coventry
The cream of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour were looking to get their hands on this year’s GUKPT Champion of Champions crown at Coventry’s G Casino last week, but it was up-and-coming Brit Luke Fields who eventually pocketed the £42,250 cheque.
In total, 153 players were entered in to the £150,000 freeroll – securing their passage after winning GUKPT events, side events or online festivals over the past 12 months – and the field was littered with big names from the British scene, including Neil Channing and Jeff Kimber.
Fields, who won July’s GUKPT Sheffield Main Event, needed to overcome a tough final table, which included GUKPT star Alli Mallu, and lifted the trophy after his pocket Queens held over Stephen Holden’s A-K in the final hand.
The final table payouts were as follows:
1 Luke Fields £44,250
2 Stephen Holden £31,125
3 James Miller £19,500
4 Alli Mallu £12,000
5 Deborah Masson £9,375
6 Patryk Slusarek £7,125
7 Michael Fisher £5,625
8 Stephen Thomson £4,125
9 Andrew Booth £3,000
10 Ramazanali Abbassi £2,625
