Tom Bentham takes down £20,000 and the GUKPT London Heads Up Champion title
The inaugural GUKPT London Heads Up Championship has been won by Tom Bentham. He defeated Richard Gryko in just over two hours in the final of the £2,500 GUKPT event at the Grosvenor Victoria casino in London. On route to the final he claimed wins over Neil Channing, Ketul Nathwani and Vach Nankoosing in the 16-runner tournament. Bentham is a player that not many will be familiar with, given that he spends most of his time playing online, where he has developed a formidable reputation.
During the first hour of the final the play was fairly evenly matched, but Bentham began to pull away from his opponent during the second hour. In the final hand of the match he held A-5 against Gryko’s K-8. Gryko was ahead on a flop of 2-4-8, but an ace on the river settled the encounter in Bentham’s favour. He now has his sights set on a heads up double, as the £5,000 UK Heads Up Championship will take place in November at the Vic, during the GUKPT Grand Final festival.
