Young pro Alex Goulder makes his debut at the £250k guaranteed Nottingham tournament
Alex Goulder had to fend off stiff competition to win the Dusk Till Dawn Monte Carlo Tournament this weekend, seeing off established pros Stuart Fox, Peter Evans and Matt Perrins, to bag the £77k prize and his first significant tournament win.
Many UK pros flocked to Nottingham for the £250k guaranteed Dusk Till Dawn Monte Carlo Tournament. It was decidedly different to previous Monte Carlo events, with the new RE-ENTRY system giving players who have been knocked out on the first day a chance to re-buy back in.
The 252 players were gradually whittled down, resulting in a heads-up match between recent WSOP winner Matt Perrins and Goulder. Perrins, one of the many successful Brits at the World Series this year, had a winning streak that was not destined to continue.
Goulder saw off the Rochdale pro when his Ad-Td crushed Perrins’ Jc-Th on a Kc-3h-Ah-7h-5s board. Goulder scooped first prize for £77,512.50, leaving Perrins with a significantly smaller second place payout of £45,315.00.
The final table positions and prizes were as follows:
1 Alex Goulder – £77,512.50
2 Matt Perrins – £45,315.00
3 Stuart Fox – £27,189.00
4 Daniel Laming – £19,080.00
5 James Clarke – £14,310.00
6 Lee Cockroft – £10,732.50
7 Mitchell Johnson – £8,347.50
8 Kevin Brown – £5,962.50
9 Peter Evans – £4,770.00
