JP Kelly comes close to making history at the 2010 WSOPE
The third event at the 2010 WSOPE, £1,000 NLHE, came to a thrilling conclusion last night. Scott Shelley and UK PokerStars Pro JP Kelly came through a field of 582 players to reach heads-up. Kelly was on the verge of making history in a number of ways if he could just finish the job. Victory here would have been his third WSOP bracelet – the most ever held by a UK player – and after winning this very same event last year he would have become the only player since Phil Hellmuth to defend a NLHE WSOP title. Further to that, Kelly would also have usurped Phil Ivey as the youngest player to ever win three WSOP bracelets.
However, the fairytale ending was not to be as Shelley won the heads-up and consigned Kelly to runner-up. Shelley, who works for online site PKR, said, ‘I think I’ll wake up soon. I can’t believe that I’ve won a bracelet and a six figure cheque!’ Shelley collected £133,857 for the win.
