30-year-old local busts every player on final table
Joe Tehan bagged the coveted NAPT Las Vegas title after knocking out every player on a tough final table for £725,000.
Arriving relatively short-stacked, Tehan began dismantling his opponents after knocking out Jake Toole in eighth place. Young star Jason Mercier, chasing his second NAPT title this year, quickly followed alongside Michael Binger, before Tehan eliminated both Anh Van Nguyen and Ray Henson simultaneously in a monster three-way pot.
Al Grimes went in third and Tehan completed his demolition after both he and long-time chip leader Chris DeMaci flopped top pair on a King high board heads-up. In keeping with the theme of the day, Tehan had DeMaci out-kicked and he was delighted with his victory over a tough 701-strong field.
Acknowledging the stellar run of cards that came his way, Tehan told the watching Las Vegas crowd that he ‘ran really, really good today’ and ‘won a lot of coin flips,’ adding ‘I won all the hands that were 50-50. It feels great. I’m happy with the way I played.’
The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
1 Joe Tehan $725,000
2 Chris DeMaci $440,000
3 Al Grimes $250,000
4 Anh Van Nguyen $195,000
5 Ray Henson $145,000
6 Michael Binger $114,000
7 Jason Mercier $84,857
8 Jake Toole $60,000
